Naik, Vaz named Cuncolim chairperson & vice-chairperson

In a strategic move aimed at scuttling any poaching bid by the ruling party, Joaquim and Yuri Alemao declared Prof Laximan Naik and Anthony Vaz as the group’s candidates for the post of Chairperson and vice-Chairperson respectively of the Cuncolim Municipal Council.

Moments after the group made it big by winning in nine out of the 14 CMC wards, the  newly-elected Councillors went into a huddle with the Joaquim-Yuri duo in a city hotel and unanimously decided to nominate Prof Laximan Naik for the post of Chairperson and Anthony Vaz for the vice-Chairperson’s post.

The announcement was made by Yuri in the presence of the nine Counci lors and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who lauded the group of choosing the leader without wasting time and before the ruling party could play dirty.

A three-time Councillor, Prof Laximan accepted the responsibility entrusted to him by the newly-elected members and the Alemaos, pledging to sincerely work for the people of Cuncolim. “I will work with the Councilors and the people to deliver the goods to the people of Cuncolim”, he vowed.

Yuri told the media that new group will unitedly work to usher in the development of the town and provide a corruption-free Council to Cuncolkars. “We will implement our manifesto”, he added.

In his address, Leader of Opposition Kamat complimented the Congress for unanimously choosing the candidates for the post of Chairperson and vice-Chairperson before the ruling party could even make calls and send people to wean away the members elected on the Congress panel."
