There’s good news in store for the people of Navelim and surrounding areas on the health front.
The government has sanctioned a 12-bedded hospital for Navelim, which will be attached to the existing Navelim Primary Health Centre. Making the announcement at the three annual mega health camp at the Navelim health centre on Saturday, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said the 12-bedded hospital will receive the administration
nod and is now awaiting financial sanction from the
government.
He said the foundation stone for the proposed 12-bedded hospital will be laid once the project receives the financial approval after estimates are prepared by the consultant. “The 12-bedded hospital will have a host of facilities. I have been told that after the project gets the financial approval, the GSIDC will execute the project within the time frame,” he said, adding that the foundation stone for the project is not laid on Saturday since the Health department is awaiting the financial sanction.
The Navelim MLA further said though he has plans to set up a health centre at Davorlim village to cater to the health requirements of the villagers of Davorlim and Rumdamol housing board residents, he favoured that the villages of Davorlim, Rumdamol and Aquem Baixo are all brought under the jurisdiction of the Navelim health centre for the moment. “Presently, Davorlim and Rumdamol come under the Curtorim health centre,” he said, while making an appeal to the people to avail benefits of the mega medical camp.
In his address, Dr Jose D’Sa said the mega health camp has laid stress on detection and diagnosis. He said the government had started a dialysis unit at the Navelim PHC last year with two beds. “Today, the dialysis unit has five beds and now caters to around 28 patients. This is an advanced service being provided from the centre. Besides, insulin is provided free of cost to the patients,” Dr D’Sa added.
