Navelim Sarpanch Paul Pereira was on Thursday voted out of office in a no confidence motion.

At a special meeting held on Thursday, the no trust motion against the Sarpanch was carried by 6-0 votes. The Sarpanch along with four other members of the Panchayat body abstained.

The winds of instability had hit the Navelim village panchayat on June 6 after six members including ex-deputy Sarpanch and BJP-backed Panchayat member Damodar Chawan, had moved the no trust motion against the Sarpanch Paul Pereira.

The six signatories to the  motion includes Lucia A Carvalho, Minguel Rosario Cardozo, Damodar Chawan, Tony Miguel  Gonsalves, Jasmitha Augusta Periera and Inacio Santana Caitano Fernandes.

In the notice of no confidence motion entered in the office of Salcete Block Development Office, the signatories have claimed the Sarpanch did not take the members into confidence while taking decisions and also acts in an authoritative and dictatorial manner.

Sources said the Sarpanch lost the bare majority support in the 11-member Panchayat body after the ex-deputy Sarpanch and BJP-backed member Damodar Chawan switched sides.
