Navtara staffer arrested for alleged Rs 36,000 cash theft

An employee of Navtara restaurant in Anjuna was arrested after he allegedly stole Rs 36,000 from the restaurant’s cash counter by opening its safe, police said.

The incident was reported on September 9.

According to the complaint lodged by Navtara managing director Aditya Tavora on behalf of the State, the accused, identified as Tapas Shit (31), allegedly opened the safe at the restaurant and removed Rs 36,000 in cash before fleeing from the premises.

Shit, who is employed as a staff member at the restaurant, is a native of East Midnapore, West Bengal, and was residing at Navtara, Anjuna, according to police.

Anjuna police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to theft.

Police subsequently arrested Shit. Further investigation is under way.
