Sessions Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against mining trader Philip Jacob of Amalagiri Traders', who is allegedly involved in Rs 500 crore mining scam. The warrant has been issued against Jacob for repeated failure to appear before the court and the investigating agency.
Jacob, who had previously secured bail from Sessions Court, was ordered to appear before the investigating agency and to cooperate in the ongoing investigation. He was arrested by SIT in July this year.
However, on Friday, the Special Investigating Team (Mining) of Goa Police moved an application before the court seeking cancellation of bail granted to Jacob by the Special Court. Jacobs has moved the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him by the Crime Branch. The HC has adjourned the hearing in the matter to November 16.
Jacob's firm was found to have recorded a turnover of over Rs 500 crore and his bank statements showed that more than Rs 300 crore was paid by his company to different mine owners in the state for the purchase of iron ore from mining leaseholders.
