Sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) reportedly conducted a search at the residence of former Mapusa councillor Franky Carvalho on Tuesday evening, in an operation that continued for several hours. The NCB team arrived at Carvalho’s residence at around 4 pm and remained there until late in the evening, carrying out a detailed search of the premises. The officials reportedly arrived in four vehicles and were seen examining various parts of the house.
During the operation, NCB personnel were also seen taking a weighing scale and other equipment inside the premises, indicating that the search was connected with a narcotics investigation. It was not immediately clear whether the NCB team recovered or seized any narcotic substance or other incriminating material during the search. The agency had not, till late Tuesday evening, officially disclosed the reason for the raid or details of any seizure. The nature of the NCB inquiry and whether Carvalho himself is a suspect or whether the search forms part of a wider investigation also remained unclear. Sources, however, revealed that Carvalho’s daughter was allegedly questioned by NCB officials during the operation. Carvalho is a former Mapusa Municipal Council councillor and has previously held a position in the BJP's North Goa district organisation. The NCB operation comes amid heightened enforcement against narcotics in and around Mapusa. Goa Police have also reported recent drug seizures in the town.
