NCP questioned the silence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on this issue and urged him to come clean on his government’s stand.
Speaking to the media at NCP headquarters in Panaji, NCP President Jose Philip D’Souza stated, “In Kerala and in many North Eastern states, the BJP has gone and promised good quality beef if elected to power while in many other states BJP leaders and goons have supported the beef ban and have condoned lynchings in its name. If we keep silent today, our peaceful coexistence will be trampled by this dictatorship.”
He also said that the hidden agenda of RSS against the minorities stands exposed.
Several NCP leaders pointed out that the central government isn’t gunning for the big fish in the business who export tones of beef but instead targeting smaller outlets run by members of minority communities.
“If Swamy is talking about it on the national platform, it means that some discussion has taken place at the national level on the topic with reference to Goa. This
move and even such statements inevitably cause ruptures in the socio-cultural make-up of Goa,” D’Souza cautioned.
Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro also echoed these sentiments and insisted that Swamy’s statement ‘comes out of ignorance though he is a BJP national leader’.
“Goa has got a unique culture of Goem, Goemkar and Goemkarponn, as it is referred to today. If they don’t understand that, they shouldn’t talk about it. There is a
ban on cow slaughter because there is certain reverence for the cow. As far as the meat of buffalo and bullock are concerned, Goa has got its own legislation and our own abattoir and I don’t know
how Mr Swamy can make such monstrous, irresponsible statements,” Faleiro
observed.
