VASCO

Coming down heavily on rash movement of heavy vehicles in Vasco, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has threatened to block all heavy vehicles if timings of prohibited movement of heavy vehicles through the city are not increased.

NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza, NCP Minority Cell Chairman Nazir Khan, NCP State Youth President Pritam Naik and other members addressed a news conference, after a ghazal singer was crushed to death by a truck in an accident near St Andrews Junction in Vasco on Monday afternoon.

Demanding that authorities take immediate action on heavy vehicles speeding through Vasco roads, D’Souza said the government notification for timings of entry and exit of heavy vehicles in Vasco should be immediately changed and increased, so as to further restrict movement of heavy vehicles.

D’Souza even demanded a complete ban on movement of heavy vehicles during the day to safeguard the lives of Vascokars. “I will request Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar to draw a fresh notification increasing the prohibited time for entry of heavy vehicles for the betterment of Vascokars.”

“The notification of the entry of heavy vehicles into Vasco is faulty and the prohibited time of heavy vehicles entering Vasco has to be increased to prevent fatal accidents.”

“Going by the frequency of traffic entering/exiting the town, heavy vehicles should be only allowed only in the night to prevent fatal accidents. It is time that the government takes steps to protect the interests of Vasco town,” said D’Souza.

NCP State Youth President Pritam Naik said there were around four major schools along the FL Gomes road, which is used by heavy vehicles to move in and out of MPT.

“The government must expedite works on the four-lane highway leading from Verna to the port so that heavy vehicles coming in and out of MPT could use it, leaving the internal roads for locals.”

“There is a need to widen road in locations like St Andrew’s Circle, where the accident happened on Monday. The stretch near St Andrew’s Circle is the only place where the road is not widened.”

NCP State Minority President Nazir Khan requested authorities to ensure that rules were followed by all motorists.
