Stating that governance in Goa had come to a standstill, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State unit on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
“With the State borrowings touching Rs 18,000 crore, Goa is staring at a huge debt. There is complete paralysis in governance and the officers in the department are having a field day. If Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar does not resign within 15 days I will go on fast unto death,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of Goa NCP unit.
The NCP general secretary was addressing a news conference at Mapusa on Tuesday evening. John Lobo and other members were also present.
Barde said while officials were rushing to meet the chief minister in Delhi at the cost of the exchequer, the MLAs of Goa Forward Party and MGP were also parading before him at AIIMS.
Applauding the bold stand taken by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, the NCP general secretary said the coastal legislator raised relevant issues affecting Goans.
“Lobo’s bold stand is a slap on the CM’s face and if he has any shame left, he should resign,” Barde said.
Censuring the health minister for mishandling the formalin in fish issue, he demanded that Vishwajit Rane should also resign as minister.
“The formalin in fish issue will affect the tourism industry in Goa. Tourists do not come to eat vegetables in Goa and the formalin issue will drive them away,” he said.
Stating that the government of Goa was on life-support, John Lobo said that this government should go.
“There is so much confusion within the government that MLAs within the coalition partners are taking pot shots at each other. The government says one thing but does something else,” Lobo said.
He said when people questioned Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo on the Mapusa downtown scheme he said that he was not taken into confidence.
Similarly, he said, government plans to bring dirt from Porvorim into a sewerage treatment plant in Mapusa but the Mapusa and Aldona MLAs say there are not aware.
“There is complete chaos in the functioning of this government,” he said.
