“I request vegetable and fruit vendors, shopkeepers and all citizens to attend the public hearings on all three days and raise their objections against expansion of berths, dredging and other port-related expansion projects,” added Khan.
Asked if the four-lane connectivity to the port would reduce pollution, Khan replied: “Pollution will increase manifold with the four-lane highway, as more trucks carrying coal and wood chips will continuously ply along the route.”
Khan also questioned the port’s plans to transport coal and wood chips at night, to minimise dust pollution.
“The MPT is fooling people as coal and wood chip trucks are seen plying even during the day. In what way would night transportation help citizens, except for traffic congestion? Pollution will continue to haunt the health of the citizens,” said Khan.
