The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday expressed concern over rising vector-borne diseases and bad roads in the port town.
NCP State President and former minister Jose Philip D’Souza and other members addressed a news conference on Tuesday, alleging that Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) had not undertaken proper pre-monsoon works and this had led to a rise in vector-borne cases like malaria and dengue in Vasco.
“I had been to the Chicalim Sub district hospital and was informed there are about 5-6 suspected vector-borne cases per day and this is cause for alarm.” “The civic body and health authorities have not done their work and this is the reason for the rise in such cases. There must be an immediate joint meeting and measures should be taken to control the rise in such cases,” said D’Souza.
D’Souza also said the roads in Vasco are in shambles and laden with potholes, making it dangerous for motorists.
“Potholes have to be covered immediately and if this is not done before Saptah, I will lead an agitation along with Vasco residents.”
“I will also speak to the health and PWD minister and apprise them about these issues,” said D’Souza.
