NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde has requested the deputy collector to felicitate in issuing permission for holding of the popular Bodgeshwar zatra in Mapusa on January 27.
“Many unprivileged people are looking forward towards the zatra to make a living. Several small-time businessmen erect stalls and sell their goods at the zatra. We are aware of the limitations due to Covid, but the zatra needs to be held,” said Barde.
The NCP General Secretary along with other party officials met and handed a memorandum to the Deputy Collector Akshay Potekar in Mapusa.
Barde said whatever the stall owners earn during the festival will help them to take care of themselves for the next three to four months.
Deputy Collector Akshay Potekar agreed to issue permission once the Bodgeshwar committee makes an application for the same.
“We will allow holding of the zatra by following a strict protocol of Covid-19 guidelines as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” Potekar said.
He said a meeting of the Bodgeshwar committee was recently held and all necessary protocols were explained in detail to the committee members.
The NCP General Secretary also requested the deputy collector to stop loud music and illegal parties that are being organised in the coastal belt, particularly in the Sunburn Beach Club in Vagator.
He said nightclubs were holding parties and playing loud music which disturbed the peace of the villagers during the nights.
The deputy collector informed that police officials have been told to take action against any illegalities like playing loud music in the coastal belt.
“We have issued directions to take action against illegalities and playing loud music after 10 pm. The police are bound to take action,” Potekar said.
