More wards likely in 5 of 'B' Class municipal councils

The number of wards in five Class B Municipal Councils are to be increased ahead of the upcoming civic election in the State. 

The wards of Bicholim and Cuncolim civic bodies are to be increased from the current 12 to 14. 

The Municipal Council of Curchorem-Cacora will have its strength increased by one to 15, while the number of wards in Quepem Municipal Area will be hiked from 11 to 13. 

The current 10 wards of Canacona Municipal Council will be increased to 12. 

The terms of 11 municipal councils ended in November last year but elections were defrred due to the pandemic and administrators were appointed to run their day-to-day affairs. 

The polls are now likely to be held together with those of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) wwhose term is ending in early March. 

Meanwhile, mamlatdars have been directed to start the process of rationalising and delimiting the wards. They have been set a deadline of January 12 to complete the exercise.

Rider dies after falling in Pernem canal

PERNEMA rider died after the scooter plunged into a canal near the Pernem Health Centre on Thursday night.According to reports, the incident came to light on Friday morning and a fire tender from the Pernem fire services went to the site and retrieved the body of Shyam Gawas and the scooter.The body was later handed over to Pernem police for further investigations.
