The Nationalist Congress Party has decided to assess the strength of the party in Goa and shortlist winnable candidates willing to contest the 2022 Assembly election.
NCP observer for Goa, Narendra Verma said the party national leadership is in discussion with the State party leaders, including President Jose Philip D’Souza, MLA Churchill Alemao and others how to go about in the coming Assembly election.
Briefing the media, the NCP observer said that the party is assessing it’s strength in the State and will unveil party candidates for the 2022 Assembly elections after discussions with the State party leadership.
The observer made the statement after Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao said that NCP cannot wait for long for other secular parties on the question of alliance for the 2022 assembly elections.
In fact, Churchill told the NCP observer that the party should wait for a month or two for the secular and like-minded political parties to reciprocate the offer of alliance or the party should go ahead to go alone in the elections.
Churchill said the party is being approached by many prospective candidates and leaders from across the State, inquiring whether the NCP will enter into an alliance or fight the coming elections alone.
“We are capable of fielding more than 20 candidates across the State going by the response the party has received from the people,” he said.
