Close to a thousand second-year students from various undergraduate courses like BA, BSc, and BCom, who failed to clear their backlog papers, have been denied admission to the final year by several colleges.

The Goa University Students Council has urged the Varsity to grant relaxation to the students. University Students Council and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Goa unit on Tuesday called upon the Vice Chancellor and Registrar demanding clarity on the issue. Following an Ordinance issued by the Varsity stating that students with even one backlog paper will not be admitted to final year, there was panic in the student community.

“During the meeting, we were informed that the Rule exists since 2010; however, in view of COVID-pandemic, relaxation was granted for two years, that is in 2021-22, 2022-23,” council chairman Vinay Raut said.

He said that the University even informed that the students have liberty to answer supplementary exams and pending its result, can take provisional admission to the next class. Raut said that they have urged the university to grant relaxation this year and some productive solution can be worked out.
