The meeting was part of an awareness and mobilisation campaign being held across constituencies and panchayats to unite the ST community on the issue of political reservation. Senior leaders Prakash Velip, Govind Gaude and Vassudev Meng Gaonkar urged the community to remain united in its struggle for constitutional rights.
The leaders maintained that political reservation for Scheduled Tribes is a constitutional entitlement guaranteed under the Constitution drafted by Dr B.R. Ambedkar and should be implemented without further delay. They asserted that the community would continue its democratic movement until the demand is fulfilled.
The speakers also expressed concern over the government’s stand on the delimitation process and sought clarity on its status and the implementation of political reservation. They said the issue had already progressed through the legal and constitutional framework and was being closely monitored by the community.
Stating that the ST community constitutes a significant section of the population in several parts of the state, the leaders described the continued delay in granting political reservation as unjust and called upon the government to honour its constitutional obligations.
The meeting resolved to intensify public outreach by organising similar programmes in every taluka and panchayat across Goa.
