OLD GOA
Stating that the inundation of Neura khazan fields continues unabated despite St Andre MLA’s visit last week, AAP leader Ramrao Wagh has demanded immediate remedial action in the matter.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Neura fields, Wagh said that he had petitioned various authorities, including the Governor, to probe the deliberate release of saline water in the fields by the fish mafia.
“Later, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar along with the Tiswadi Mamlatdar and other officials had conducted an inspection of the fields. But, to date, no action has taken place and the fields continued to be inundated with saline water,” Wagh informed and blamed the fish mafia for releasing the saline water in the fields to increase fish and prawn production.
“If this activity is allowed to be continued, then there will be no hope for undertaking farming in the upcoming season as well,” Wagh opined.
However, when The Goan contacted MLA Borkar, he informed us that after his visit, the Tiswadi Mamlatdar held a meeting of the Talathis along with the managing committee members of the tenants association on Wednesday.
“At the meeting, the Mamlatdar has directed to undertake immediate repairs of the broken bundhs and the sluice gates," Borkar informed, while stating that though work on the repairs has not started yet, the material has already been brought to the site.
“In a day or two, the work should start,” the MLA added and informed that he is keeping a close watch on the issue.
