Mindful that many pharmacists are refusing to issue cheaper generic medicines and are favouring branded medicines, the BJP Goa Medical Cell has appealed to doctors in the State to mention on the prescription that generic medicines equivalent to quality and efficacy may be dispensed.
"Currently, in the absence of such a note, pharmacies refuse to give generic medicines to patients and insist on the brands prescribed by doctors. As part of Central government policy to promote generic medicines, this line on the prescription will help those who want to buy generic medicines,” said Dr Shekhar Salkar chief of BJP Goa Medical Cell, during a news conference.
Dr Sneha Bhagwat of the BJP Medical Cell informed that six names have been shortlisted to set up the Janaushadhi Kendra to promote generic medicines.
Dr Bhagwat said the BJP Medical Cell will assist the Janaushadhi Kendra.
Ranjita Pai (Margao), Joseph Fernandes (Ponda), Gurupras Matravadi (Porvorim), Noel Menezes (Margao), Chaya Borkar (Curtorim) and Subhodh Desai (Valpoi) have been chosen to form the Janaushadhi Kendra, informed Dr Bhagwat.
Dr Salkar highlighted the achievements of the BJP government with a mention of the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme and mass vaccination to control Covid.
“The Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojna started in September 2018 is the world’s largest government-funded scheme. A total of 18 crore family cards have been issued under the scheme. The scheme is implemented by 33 States and 3.28 crore people have benefited from the scheme till now,” said Dr Salkar.
“The government has disbursed almost Rs 25,000 crore to hospitals and 27,300 empanelled government hospitals are under the scheme and 50 per cent of beneficiaries are women.”
He informed that during the Covid pandemic, 185 crore people were vaccinated, which was more than the entire population of Europe.
Commenting on the implementation of Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojna, Dr Salkar said of the 36,431 eligible families, 8,542 families are covered under the scheme in the State.
“In the State, 23,000 people have benefited from the scheme and Rs 80 lakh have been disbursed.”
There are 7 PHC, 6 CHC, 13 govt hospitals and 32 private hospitals which are covered under the scheme in the State.
Some beneficiaries were felicitated during the news conference.
