In what will be a double bonanza for commuters and tourists from Belagavi and Goa, a new train between Vasco and Goa will be flagged off on Wednesday, while an official halt at the famed Dudhsagar waterfalls will also be inaugurated.
Fulfilling his promises to the people of Belagavi and Goa, Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi will flag off this long-awaited train.
“These trains will be a boon for residents of both Belagavi and Goa by helping to improve trade, tourism and culture and extremely helpful in increasing connectivity between Goa and Belagavi/Uttara Kannada Districts,” Union Minister Angadi said.
According to a South Western Railway (SWR) press release, the bi-weekly passenger train between Vasco and Belagavi will be flagged off by Angadi and Union Minister of State of Defence Shripad Naik at Vasco station on September 4.
Accordingly, Train 06922 will run up to Belagavi with open path and timings and Suresh Angadi, who will be on the train, will conduct inspection by travelling in the same train and will inaugurate Dudhsagar as a halt station for the train.
On a regular basis, Train 06921 Belagavi-Vasco Bi-Weekly Passenger Special will depart from the Belagavi railway station at 6.20 am on Friday and Saturday, arriving at Vasco railway station at 12.40 pm the same day. En route, the train will halt at Khanapur, Gunji, Londa, Tinaighat, Castle Rock, Dudhsagar, Kulem, Sanvordem, Chandor, Margao, Cansaulim and Dabolim.
The train will run for three months on trial basis and will continue depending upon the response.
Similarly, on regular service of Train 06922 Vasco“Belagavi Bi-Weekly Passenger Special will depart from the Vasco railway station at 3.55 pm and arrive at Belagavi at 9.25 pm every Friday and Saturday. En route, the train will halt at Dabolim, Cansaulim, Margao, Chandor, Sanvordam, Kulem, Dudhsagar, Castle Rock, Tinaighat, Londa, Gunji, and Khanapur. The Train will have a composition of eight general second class and two second class with luggage cum
brake-van.
Stoppage at the Dudhsagar Water Falls will be provided on experimental basis from September 6 to September 15.
VASCO CORRESPONDENT ADDS: A number of MPs, ministers and legislators from Goa and Karnataka will attend the inaugural event at Vasco on Wednesday.
They include South Goa MP Fransisco Sardinha and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, WRD Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Opposition Leader, Digambar Kamat, MLAs Carlos Almeida, Alina Saldanha, Prasad Gaonkar and Clafascio Dias.
The leaders from Karnataka include Lok Sabha MP Anantkumar Hegde, Rajya Sabha MP Prabhakar Kore, MLAs R V Deshpande, Abhay Patil, Vivekrao Patil, Shrikant Ghotnekar, Anil Benake, Hanumant Nirani, Arun Shahapur, S V Sankanur, Anjali Nimbalkar, Laxmi Hebbalkar and Basavraj Horatti.
