Describing the waste management project in Bicholim as an exemplary project in the State, newly elected Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) Chairperson Vijaykumar Natekar has pledged to get various facilities at site to convert the project into a tourist destination.
He also stated that everyone will be involved in achieving all-round development by making Bicholim town beautiful and plastic-free.
Natekar was speaking after officially being elected unopposed as chairperson in the presence of Election Officer Bhimnath Khorjuvekar and BMC Chief Officer Sachin Desai. All 14 councillors were present at the election. Former BMC Chairperson Kundan Falari and all other councillors congratulated Natekar on his election.
“I would like to transform the waste management project into a tourist destination by providing various facilities at the site, and want to make students and youth in the State aware of the waste management process. Let us work towards a plastic-free and beautiful Bicholim,” said Natekar.
He expressed his gratitude to all those who have supported him, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP State President Damu Naik, Bicholim MLA, Dr Chandrakant Shetye, BJP leader Dr Kaustubh Patnekar, and all councillors.
He assured to work with suggestions of people to address the issue of stray cattle and other areas where improvements are needed in the town.
Incidentally, Natekar is considered a cleanliness ambassador, as he goes around the city every morning to collect garbage, and has been constantly working towards a plastic-free town.
He has also resolved to implement various schemes with the support of the government.
