The proposal to construct two modern bus stands, one each in Panaji and Margao, is being proposed to be taken up on a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) basis according to the State budget proposals.
The bus stands in the two cities have been in a pathetic condition for several years, and governments in the past have relied on piece-meal renovations and repairs.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in the course of his budget speech on Wednesday, said that work on the two modern bus stands will be started in the current financial year itself on the PPP model.
In his budget for 2022-23 fiscal, Sawant has also upgraded the PPP cell in the Finance Department into a full-fledged department by itself.
Sawant explained in his speech that the decision to make it a department was taken to accelerate infrastructure development and asset monetization through the PPP model.
The new PPP department has been allocated Rs 4.60 crore in the budget.
