VALPOI
Amid growing complaints of erratic water supply in the Poriem constituency, MLA Deviya Rane on Thursday directed officials of the water supply department to take serious measures to address the problem in the affected villages.
The MLA also directed that priority be given to implementing separate water purification projects, if required, in the constituency.
A meeting to discuss the water supply problems was convened in Valpoi and was attended by officials of water supply, irrigation department, electricity department and panchayat members of Keri, Thane and Mauxi.
Deviya had a detailed look at the problem of drinking water in different panchayat areas and discussed with officials on measures to be taken to alleviate the problem in the affected areas.
At present, there is a severe water shortage in Keri-Sattari, and water supplied through the water purification project in Keri is not considered conducive for consumption. The erratic water supply has also angered locals in the village and the Keri sarpanch and other panchas have demanded a clean and proper water supply.
There is also a shortage of drinking water in Mauxi and Thane panchayat areas in the constituency, compelling residents to rely on water tankers.
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane directed the officials to study the possibility of providing a full-time water supply to these panchayat areas by increasing the capacity of the water purification project at Dabos.
