Former minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Saturday said the power deficiency in Calangute would be solved very soon with the commissioning of the new sub-station at Arradi, Calangute.
The work of setting up a 33/11 KV gas-insulated sub-station (2x20 MVA) along with the associated equipment is almost complete and is expected to be inaugurated as early as next week.
“The sub-station is equipped with quality equipment and is the most modern facility. The sub-station is completed in record time and is designed to take care of the power needs of the Calangute village,” Lobo said.
Incidentally, the foundation stone for the sub-station project was laid by the then-Power Minister Nilesh Cabral in August 2021 and the work on the project was expected to be completed in December last year.
The total estimated cost of the project was Rs 25 crore including the cost of the land.
Lobo said that there was an urgent need to upgrade the bigger Saligao sub-station which will act as the power-house of Bardez.
“To do that we need to bring tower lines from Colvale to Saligao. It’s a big project which will cost at least Rs 250 crore. It’s the need of the hour and the Chief Minister is aware of the urgency in getting the work done,” he said.
He stressed on the need to build infrastructure in the coastal belt which is home to several hotels, guest houses, shacks etc. He said the water problem of Calangute will also be resolved after the construction of a water treatment plant in Pilerne.
