Come September 1, the newly-appointed garbage contactor appointed by the Cuncolim Municipal Council at an estimated cost of over Rs one crore will start door-to-door waste collection in the town, according to the Cuncolim Municipal Council.
Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas informed that the contractor has been directed by the civic body to collect waste from the households and the establishments daily, including Sundays and holidays.
With the civic body appointing a new contractor for the door-to-door waste collection exercise, the Cuncolim Civic Chief has warned that the CMC would come down heavily on persons found disposing off waste along the roadsides and in open spaces.
In fact, Landy has warned that CMC officials have been given instructions to impose a penalty of Rs 5,000 on persons violating the provision of the solid waste management rules.
Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer John Fernandes informed that the CMC had floated a door to door waste collection tender, adding that the civic body has given the tender to the bidder.
“The contractor has been given the brief to collect the waste door to door and to segregate the same, besides baling the dry waste at the garbage treatment plant. We will float a separate tender for the disposal of plastic bottles,” John informed.
