Opposition panchas of Salvador do Mundo panchayat have demanded the resignation of the panch who has been booked by police following a complaint of bribery.

The panchas have further demanded that the sarpanch should also resign on moral grounds as the panch is part of the ruling dispensation.

This demand was made the opposition panchas while addressing reporters at Azad Maidan on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, panch Reena Fernandes informed that when they came to know through the media that police have filed FIR against one of the panchas of the ruling panel for accepting bribe they were shocked.

“It is very shameful incident due to which the name of the village is spoilt. The police should conduct thorough probe into the matter and take the issue to its logical conclusion,” Fernandes added.

Further, Fernandes demanded that the sarpanch should owe responsibility for the incident and resign on moral grounds as the panch is part of her ruling panel.

Former sarpanch and current panch Sandeep Salgaonkar said the said panch should also accept moral responsibility and resign from his post.

“The government should also intervene in the matter and stop the panch from entering the panchayat. Otherwise, it would send a wrong signal to entire State because it amounts to corruption,” Salgaonkar stated.

Salgaonkar demanded that the sarpanch should also resign on moral grounds as she has been all along claiming that the said panch is part of her camp.

On his party, former deputy sarpanch and current panch Dattaram Redkar opined that it could be because of such corrupt practices that he was removed from the post of deputy sarpanch.

“It could be that they did not want me in that post as otherwise I would have come to know of their corrupt practices,” Redkar alleged while also demanding that the sarpanch should tender her resignation from the post with immediate effect.

Ex-sarpanch Vijay Dalvi and social worker Depraj Naik were also present.
