Villagers demand minister give presentation at Bhoma site

PANAJI
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral’s presentation that the highway expansion project is not affecting any temple and only four houses will be demolished has failed to placate the resident of Bhoma who have now demanded that the minister make his power point presentation at the site to them.

The residents who had a public meeting in their village rejected the minister’s claim that the bypass they are demanding is not technically possible and rejected by the MoRTH.

They said, they are determined to “save their village” and warned the government not to take them lightly.

Several youth, women and seniors from the village and neighbouring areas had gathered for the public meeting where speakers accused the government for choosing this particular alignment to protect the holdings of certain landlords.

At the public meeting, it was also claimed that former chief minister, the late Manohar Parrikar had assured them of a bypass because the houses and temples alongside the road will be affected. The area comes under the jurisdiction of the BJP-held Priol constituency which is represented by the Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude, and the villagers have linked their demand for a bypass.
