New fish market project cleared, but delayed due to shifting issues: Milind

VASCO
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Wednesday said the much-awaited Vasco fish market did not face any hurdles and was cleared by GSUDA, but had been delayed due to the shifting of existing fish vendors.

Naik was speaking to reporters during an event to launch paver works at Baina in the presence of outgoing councillor Murari Bandekar and residents.

"There is no issue on any development work under the GSUDA. In Mormugao constituency, we have around 90 development works under GSUDA in all nine wards and works are being launched on time.”

“As far as the new Vasco fish market is concerned, there is no issue from the GSUDA. There has been a delay in shifting of vendors and once this is cleared, work on the market project will begin. I don't want to interfere in the matter because our own BJP leader, Carlos Almeida, is the MLA of Vasco constituency," said Naik.

Outgoing ward councillor Murari Bandekar said works worth about Rs 20 lakh had begun on Wednesday, while projects worth about Rs 80 lakh have been completed in the ward in the first two phases.

"Works worth Rs 9 crore have been taken across nine wards under GSUDA and this is the third phase of development works being taken up in Baina. We already have had two phases of development works,” said Bandekar.
