New Mandovi bridge leads to traffic hell

After the much-hyped opening of the third Mandovi Bridge, the Atal Setu, to vehicular traffic on Tuesday, Day 1 got off to a rocky start with all types of traffic chaos imaginable. 

With several hundreds of vehicles using the Atal Setu for the first time to get from Porvorim to the Merces junction, thus avoiding the capital city entirely, the Merces junction was completely choked in the evening. 

Even vehicles using the regular road from Panjim to get to the Merces junction were held up in the traffic jam. An ambulance was seen unable to move forward with unmoving vehicles both in front and at the two sides of it.     

Tuesday morning saw a black Maruti 800 ramming into one of the poles of the bridge, and badly damaging its bonnet and front right headlight. The accident took
