Inaugurates 100-bed Government Hospital and Research Centre (GMC Link) in Tuem

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the State government will set up a new medical college under the 100-bed Government Hospital and Research Centre (GMC Link) in Tuem.
He also stated that OPD services have begun immediately while operation theatre services would begin within the next six months at the hospital, thereby enhancing healthcare and medical education in the region.
He was speaking after inaugurating the hospital in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, ZP member Shrikrishna Harmalkar, Tuem Sarpanch Anita Salgaonkar and other dignitaries.
Addressing a large gathering, Sawant said the Government Hospital and Research Centre (GMC Link) was inaugurated at Tuem to enhance access to medical services for residents of Pernem taluka and surrounding areas in North Goa, thereby playing a key role in improving the availability of quality healthcare in the region.
“Public service is our guiding principle, and strengthening healthcare remains a top priority of the government.”
He further stated, “the government has undertaken extensive healthcare development across the state, and young Goan doctors should come forward to serve the people of Goa, especially in rural areas.”
The chief minister said 13 OPD services would begin immediately, with doctors from GMC and DHS offering services in the areas of medicine, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery, ENT, dentistry, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, dermatology, psychiatry, AYUSH and radiology.
He also informed that a Government of India–supported research unit is being established at the centre.
Sawant recalled of his close connection with the Tuem Community Health Centre.
“I have served the people of Pernem at the CHC as a doctor from 2007 to 2008. While working as a doctor at the Tuem CHC, I had submitted my resignation and it was accepted when Vishwajit Rane was the health minister,” said Sawant.
While appealing to doctors from Pernem to provide their services at the hospital, Sawant said the hospital will also function as a research centre
In his address, Rane said Dr Rajesh Patil has been appointed as nodal officer for the Tuem hospital.
Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar and Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar also spoke on the occasion.
