In a major infrastructure boost for the State police force, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new Goa Police Headquarters building, a Rs 45.62-crore project aimed at creating a modern, citizen-friendly administrative hub and strengthening policing across Goa.
The ground-plus-two headquarters building will be constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and is expected to be completed by May 2027. It will replace the existing headquarters, which has been functioning for more than 60 years, and is expected to provide better infrastructure, improved operational efficiency and enhanced working conditions for police personnel.
Addressing the gathering, Sawant said the present headquarters had served the force for six decades and needed either major renovation or replacement. The CM also flagged off 97 two-wheelers and prison vans for Goa Police to strengthen patrolling, improve police visibility and ensure quicker response across the State.
Before the flag-off, Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi briefed Sawant on the deployment plan, saying patrol schedules had been prepared for personnel covering schools, bus stands, places of worship and other public areas.
Sawant said the vehicles would also be deployed in tourist areas to improve surveillance and help keep destinations crime-free.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to modernising the police force, he said efforts were focused on better infrastructure, technology, manpower and citizen-centric policing. On crime prevention, Sawant stressed the importance of tenant verification and urged greater public cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
