MARGAO
Women from the Pajifond ward (Ward 11) of Margao Municipal Council have once again missed the reservation bus.
When the DMA had announced the reservations last month, smiles had lit the women’s faces in Ward 11 as it was reserved for women after a gap of three decades.
Their joy, however, has been short-lived as the latest reservations Pajifond ward is for general candidates.
On what grounds the DMA has deserved Pajifond ward for women is a subject of debate, more so when it has not been reserved for women for the last 30 years, apparently by politicos to satisfy the power-hungry local satraps.
With the ward being de-reserved for women, political observers do not rule out the possibility of archrivals, three-time former councillor, Raju Naik and sitting councillor Angelis Pereira crossing swords once again for supremacy in Pajifond.
Incidentally, though the ward was reserved for women, former councillor Raju had fielded his daughter on the Fatorda Forward panel fielded by Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai.
Records show that Pajifond ward has been not reserved for the last 30 years. The ward was represented twice by former MMC Chairperson Santosh Raiturkar, followed by Raju Naik for three terms and Angelis Pereira during the outgoing term.
