Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has asked the Sakhali Municipal Council (SMC) to make use of the newly-constructed building to earn maximum revenue to help the council itself.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new SMC building on December 31. The building has been constructed by SUDA at the cost of Rs 10.68 crore. Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, councillors Upendra Bugde and Dayanand Boryekar, SUDA vice-chairman Sudhir Candolkar and project officer Jagdish Hosmani were present.

D’Souza said BJP never made any difference as far as development is concerned as the main aim of the BJP government was to undertake all-round development.

“The new building for SMC has been constructed to do away with problems faced by the staff while carrying out administrative work.”

“Instead of pointing out mistakes of the ruling BJP government, the councillors should concentrate on increasing revenue of the council by making use of this new building. BJP has always worked for the betterment of the people,” he said.

Dr Sawant said he never became a hurdle in the development of SMC, as it is a part of Sakhali constituency.

“It's not fair on my part to hold back development works of SMC. The ruling councillors in SMC are simply accusing me that I am not cooperating with them in development,” he added.

SMC Chairperson Dharmesh Saglani, who did not attend the function, has accused the government and Goa State Urban Development Agency of hurriedly inaugurating the building without obtaining permissions from the Town and Country Planning and State Planning and Development Authority and also without installing necessary infrastructure in the newly-constructed office building.
