New trend: Drug dealings are now all in the family!

Drug dealing now appears to have transformed into a family business. Police have noticed a new trend in drug-related offences with the arrest of two separate Goan families between August and October for illegal possession and suspected drugs dealing.
The Anti Narcotic Cell of Goa Police in August arrested a father and his two daughters and in the last week of October, a similar such case came to light wherein the father and his elder son are already serving a jail term while the younger son was arrested for being in possession of drugs.
Speaking at Police Headquarters, Superintendent of Police (ANC) Umesh Gaonkar stated, "The trend seems to be on a rise where family members are being caught red-handed dealing in narcotics. It is possible that no other family member reports these persons because they are beneficiaries of easy money. Moreover, the society does not seem to condemn such incidents."
On August 17, ANC arrested Santosh Naik (50), the father of Yogita and Chaitali Naik, on the charge of abetment and criminal conspiracy. Naik's daughters were arrested in the preceding week for being in possession of 14 kg ganja and 20 gm MDMA.
The sisters allegedly sold narcotic substances to ‘selective customers' at the family's general store, which is attached to their residence at Corlim, Mapusa.
Similar such case surfaced on October 30 when ANC arrested a 24 year-old resident of Assagao, Merwyn Fernandes for being in illegal possession of Rs 75,000 worth suspected MDMA weighing 15 gms.
It later came to light that Merwyn is the younger son of Caitano Fernandes, who is presently serving a 10 year jail term after he was convicted of being in possession of MDMA. His elder son, Myron, is also imprisoned for being in illegal possession of LSD papers.
