In a major development, the Colva police on Tuesday registered a FIR in connection with the death of the 41-year-old Zenito Vaz, who was gored to death by a buffalo on Monday evening.
The FIR, however, has been registered against unknown persons, with the Colva police saying the police is investigating into the case to find out the persons who had organized the bullfight.
The FIR has been registered under the Provisions of the Cruelty to Animals Act and under section 304 of the IPC for causing death due to negligence.
The FIR by the police comes a day after the Colva had registered a case of unnatural death after the 41-year-old was gored to death on Monday evening.
The FIR registered by the police assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of a video of a bullfight that went viral on Tuesday. When contacted, Colva police station in-charge, PI Therron D’Costa informed that the police has registered a FIR against unknown persons since the matter is under investigation.
“The police have registered a FIR against unknown persons. We are further investigating the matter to find out the persons involved in organising the bullfight”, PI Therron said.
When asked to comment on the video that has gone viral showing a bullfight and a buffalo charging towards a fan, PI Therron said the police is verifying the video to find who had uploaded the video and the location of the bullfight. “We are verifying the video that has gone viral since one cannot make out clearly whether it was the incident that resulted in Zenito’s death. Since the police has registered the FIR, the police would investigate all angles”, he said.
