Senior South Goa police officials have said the post-mortem conducted on the body of the female newborn infant has revealed that she was suffocated to death.
Given the situation, the Cuncolim police has been told to register a case of murder.
Senior police officials pointed out that though the Cuncolim police had picked up a person for interrogation in connection with the death of the female infant, nothing concrete has come to light so far on his role in the episode.
The newborn female infant was found dead near the Cuncolim Industrial Estate on Thursday evening, following which the police has rounded up some persons for questioning.
