Newlyweds, 2 others hurt in road mishap at Loliem

A newly married couple from Karwar and two others were injured when their car rammed into a roadside electricity pole at Karai-Maxem in Loliem on Thursday.

According to sources, the newlyweds had gone to seek blessings at the Shri Mallikarjun Devasthan in Shristhal in a Goa-registered car.

After their darshan, the couple along with a driver and another person were returning home via the old NH66 Poinguinim-Loliem highway, when the car rammed into a roadside electricity pole at Karai-Maxem. The pole broke into two pieces and one portion of the pole fell on the car.

All four occupants suffered minor injuries and were shifted in a 108 ambulance to CHC Canacona.

In yet another mishap on Thursday, a fish-laden rickshaw rammed into a road divider which was erected recently.

According to the driver, he failed to recognise the newly widened stretch of road (NH66) at the Gulem section.
