MAPUSA:
A rider who was due to fly back to the Gulf on Thursday afternoon was seriously injured in a hit and run mishap near Shantadurga Bar in Lingabhat-Parra on Wednesday midnight.
According to reports, the incident took place as Nandkishore Salgaonkar (52) of Parra was returning home on a two-wheeler after attending the wedding ceremony of a relative in Nagoa.
Salgaonkar was hit by an unknown car from the rear and the vehicle sped away after the mishap, leaving him seriously hurt.
Salgaonkar was first shifted to the Mapusa District Hospital in an ambulance and was later referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.
Salgaonkar works in the Gulf and had arrived in the State to attend a relative’s wedding. After the wedding ceremony, he was supposed to fly back to the Gulf on Thursday afternoon. However, he met with a serious accident on Wednesday midnight.
The incident initially appeared to be a self-accident, but police inquiries with the victim's family revealed that the accident was a hit-and-run case. Mapusa police have launched an investigation into the matter.
