The recent reboot of the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) portal by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which citizens use to register property documents online, is facing “teething problems.” Citizens have reported difficulties in processing their registrations.
State Registrar Amir Parab admitted that several problems had emerged after the reboot but assured that NIC is working to fix them. “Over the last two days several of the issues faced have already been resolved. I am sure that within the next couple of days everything will be working alright,” Parab told *The Goan*.
The NGDRS portal had previously been criticised for being misused to fraudulently register properties and tamper with survey plans, allegedly by data entry staff. This issue was widely debated during the recent monsoon session of the Assembly.
Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate had said on the Assembly floor that while transitioning records to digital format, several mistakes and discrepancies were noticed.
He assured the House that strict action would be taken if staff wrongdoing is found and promised to review the portal’s security protocols to prevent tampering.
Following this, NIC shut down the portal from 14 August for a four-day downtime. After the reboot, some options, including the thumb impression feature, were deactivated. Sources said that under the new protocol, each sub-registrar now has a single access to the portal, which has reportedly slowed the uploading of documents by data entry staff.
