A NGO in a letter to Director General of Police has demanded to do away with a compulsion done to police sub-inspectors to register motor vehicle cases with a target.

A target of registering certain number of motor vehicle cases has been given to the Police sub-inspectors attached to various police stations. If this target is not achieved than as a penalty substantial salary of police sub-inspectors is cut by the respective Suprintedent of police.

In some cases around10 to 15 thousand per year is cut from the salary of sub-inspectors, alleged an activist.

To complete their target the sub-inspectors stand on crowded roads and collect fines from the violators.

Actually as per notification PSI were supposed to catch traffic violators on highways but they are doing it on inside roads to ease their duty.

Most of the lady PSI out of 32 Lady Police sub-inspectors which have recruited recently are mainly given a job traffic violations checking.

This is hampering the investigations of heinous crimes like rape, murder, alleged the activist.
