Responding to complains from locals over unused government vehicles abandoned in different parts of the municipality, the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) will ask the departments concerned to remove these.
A number of unused vehicles have been abandoned all over the municipality since the last few years and they have been lying near the government complex at Valpoi, the VMC garden and the Valpoi Community Health
Centre.
Thick bushes have grown around these abandoned vehicles and residents feared that these could be mosquito-breeding sites and could pose threat.
Despite several demands to get these abandoned vehicles removed, locals said there had been no action in the matter.
A water supply official admitted that an unused tanker had been abandoned in Valpoi town.
“The matter is already being pursued with higher authorities as we do not have the power to condemn this vehicle,” said the official.
When contacted, VMC Chairperson Akhtar Shah admitted that abandoned vehicles had posed a problem in Valpoi town.
“These unused and abandoned vehicles have to be removed from the area. Some vehicles have been lying there since the last six years and the departments concerned should take action on these abandoned vehicles.”
“Besides causing health and environment problems, these abandoned vehicles are also an eyesore in Valpoi town,” said Shah.
“The VMC will issue letters to the departments concerned to remove their unused and abandoned vehicles at the earliest,” he added.
