After two years of successfully running the ‘Food Bank for the Poor’ campaign, a Sangolda NGO is set to start a new initiative ‘Food Bank for Stray Animals’ with a dual intention of feeding animals and reducing wet waste in the State by at least 10%.
Donald Fernandes, from Food Bank for the Poor, stated in a social media post on Saturday that the NGO has already started a soft launch of the initiative in a few places and the members are keen to take it forward.
Fernandes conceptualised ‘Food Bank for Stray Animals’ after estimating that roughly about 3,000 kilograms of food a day goes waste only from restaurants in the state, and that this could be put to good use by feeding strays and animals. “That’s a whooping 100 tonnes a month of garbage not going to garbage dumps in any part of Goa,” said Fernandes.
