PANAJI

The National Green Tribunal has ordered the demolition of part of the Silver Sands hotel in Colva which is deemed to have been illegally extended.

The NGT in its order has ordered that the illegally extended portion be demolished soon.

This hotel property was built between 1981 to 1985 with an initial built up area of only 1022 square meters which according to the petitioner Judith Almeida was illegally expanded to a built-up area of 4,825 square adding 3,803 square meters illegally.

The structure is situated in Sy No 23/12 of village Colva and the GCZMA expert committee in its report observed that there are new structures existing within 200 mtrs of HTL and have no documents to indicate the same constructed with any permission or any licensing authority and hence recommended removal of structures denoted.

The Town and country Planning Department had issued NOC dated 17/1/78; further construction licence of Village panchayat was issued in the year 1978 and occupancy certificate was issued in the year 1981. While the first structure was found in accordance with law, the structures built subsequently have to be demolished.
