NGT bench shifting: Hearing scheduled on 11 October

The next hearing in case of the shifting of National Green Tribunal bench from Pune to Delhi has been scheduled on 11 October. Till then, the interim order prohibiting the shifting of files shall remain in force. Govt of Goa had earlier requested that the NGT bench be shifted from Pune to Delhi, a move which attracted staunch opposition from many Goan environmental activists.

Fisheries Minister Vinod Paliencar chaired a meeting on Wednesday to advocate ban on LED light fishing outside territorial Waters of coastal states. Noting that there is no provision to regulate fishing outside 12 nautical miles, as it is within the jurisdiction of Central Government, the minister stated that the Central government draw up a uniform policy to ban LED fishing beyond 12 nautical miles.
