NGT raps MoEF over hearings on Mopa EC

The National Green Tribunal has come down hard on the Union Government’s Ministry of Environment and Forests for repeatedly failing to appear in the case of appeal against the Environment Clearance granted to the upcoming greenfield international airport at Mopa.

When the matter came up, on April 11, the NGT bench remarked over how the hearings were postponed on account of the MoEF. 
“The pleadings before us raise contentious issues of facts and law. Yet, nobody remained present on behalf of MoEF on the date fixed for hearing and today, except registering the presence of Counsel. MoEF’s role in the Environment Clearance, is crucial,” the bench said.
