NHRC Special Rapporteur reviews human rights facilities in S Goa

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Special Rapporteur for Maharashtra and Goa Mohammed Jamshed on Thursday reviewed various facilities and institutions in South Goa as part of the NHRC’s mandate, in the presence of District Collector Egna Cleetus and District Police Chief Akshat Ayuish.

Jamshed, along with district officials, reviewed the status of pending NHRC cases, custodial death cases, availability of healthcare facilities, and social welfare schemes and facilities for senior citizens and children. The review also covered schemes and welfare measures implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, education facilities available in South Goa, and other aspects related to the protection, promotion and safeguarding of human rights.

Earlier this week, Jamshed inspected the lock-up at the Margao police station and made recommendations to the South Goa district police to improve amenities for inmates.
