Nigerian rape accused, victim woman may have known each other

Medical report confirms rape, one external injury observed

Police investigation in the alleged rape case involving the Nigerian indicates that the accused and the victim woman were well acquainted and knew each other for some time.

Police sources disclosed that the accused Nigerian during custodial interrogation admitted that he knew the victim, and that, they had been meeting each other for some time.

The accused has further disclosed that both he and the woman had been together in a restaurant some days back, before the alleged rape took place.

Mapusa police are now trying to gather CCTV footage of the restaurant, where both the accused and the victim woman met, to corroborate the statement.

Meanwhile, the medical report of the victim woman has come positive.

The medical report has confirmed that there was sexual intercourse. The report also mentions that there was an external injury, Mapusa police said.

“The woman has suffered a bruise below the right side of her shoulder,” a source at Mapusa police revealed.

On Tuesday, Mapusa police had informed that the accused Nigerian was earlier arrested at least on two occasions for different offences in the State.

The accused was arrested in the Porvorim rioting case in November 2013 where he along with a group of Nigerians formed an unlawful assembly and blocked traffic for more than two hours on the NH17.

He was also arrested for overstaying and living illegally in India in 2012 under various sections of the Foreigners Act, 1946.

It may be recalled the accused Nigerian had stopped the victim woman while she was proceeding on her two-wheeler at Parra on May 28.

The accused allegedly threatened her at knife point and led her to his room at Assagao, where he allegedly raped her.

The accused was finally tracked in Mumbai and Goa Police with the help of Mumbai Railway Police nabbed him at Panvel railway station on Sunday when he was trying to flee.
