Insisting that Goa’s tourism does not only depend on nightclubs, the Health Minister described the videos of revellers flouting Covid safety norms at nightclubs and high-end restaurants as “shameful”. The minister declared that the government is in the process of tightening the noose on such establishments.
“The videos which came out were very shameful. They cannot have people without a face mask and without social distancing. I know that a lot of hotels, nightclubs don’t follow Covid norms. As a result of this, we have taken it up very aggressively with the Collectors that they should ensure that these clubs mention that they can have only 50 per cent of the capacity and follow all the SOPs of the government of India and State,” the minister announced.
The minister asserted that the onus is not on the government all the time and that the owners of these particular nightclubs and on the individuals who frequent these spots should also be held responsible for such incidents. “If you want to defy whatever is told and not wear a mask, then there is nothing that we can do,” said the Health Minister brushing off the responsibility from his shoulders.
Flaying such irresponsible behaviour which holds public health to ransom, the Health Minister said that Goa’s tourism does not only depend on nightclubs. “Tourism and Excise Departments are now monitoring all tourist spots to ensure adherence to safety norms,” the minister said.
