As the NEET (UG) examination was re-conducted on Sunday amid strict security protocols, confusion prevailed among parents and students who had been allotted the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa as their examination centre.
For, while the students received a Whatsapp message from the National Testing Agency (NTA) stating that they have been allotted the National Institute of Technology, Ponda-Goa centre for the examination, the admit card downloaded by the students, however, stated that the NIT, Cuncolim campus is the examination centre allotted for the students.
Many a student along with parents are believed to have first visited the NIT, Ponda despite the fact that the NIT no longer has an office at Ponda, later headed to the Cuncolim NIT campus.
Academician Dattaram Desai from Sanquelim told the media outside the NIT, Cuncolim campus that students and parents from Sanquelim and North were left confused over the different messages received by the students on Whatsapp and admit card. “Four days ago, the students received a message from the NTA stating that they have been allotted the NIT Ponda centre for the NEET examination. “We were confused by the message since the NIT Ponda campus is shut. As a matter of abundant caution, we tried to contact the NIT Ponda, but there was no reply,” he said.
Further confusion unfolded, he said, when the students were informed via the admit card that their examination centre is at NIT, Cuncolim. “This morning some of the parents and students went to Farmagudi as a matter of caution before coming to Cuncolim,” he said.
He demanded to know who should be held responsible for creating confusion in the minds of the students and parents. “I am also an academician. I have conducted so many examinations. This confusion could have been very well avoided and the students and parents spared of the trauma,” he added.
Meanwhile, another parent pointed out that though the government had announced bus arrangements, it wasn’t clear the embarkation point of the students.
“When we reached at NIT, Cuncolim we came across a bus approaching the centre with only a driver and conductor,” he said.
