Swatch Bharat Nitol Goem marked the Gandhi Jayanti at Canacona with Canacona municipality honouring the Safai-Karmachari as Cleanliness Warriors on Friday.
Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, CMC Chairperson Nitu Desai along with Canacona Dy Collector Satish Prabhu and Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal participated for the cleanliness drive at Palolem as part of the swatch. Bharat activity.
After a few of the Municipal workers were facilitated Dy Speaker lauded the Municipal workers for doing the best of works in maintaining cleanliness all around.
Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Fernandes said, "We stand before you as elected members is only because of Gandhi's struggle for freedom, as good as our nation witnessed a white revolution (milk production) which is because of Lal Bahadur Shastri's call. We now honor this biggest day in the history of our nation where two greats were born."
Dy Collector Satish Prabhu stated the significant importance of the day while Gandhi dedicated his whole life for the country, the nation's second prime minister's Lal bahadur Shastri contributions were no less.
CMC Chairperson Nitu Desai appreciating the contributions of CMC staff said, "Our Safai kamgars are swatchta (Cleanliness warriors)."
CMC Chairperson also decided to appreciate one staff for excellence in his/her works and Municipal worker Ramchandra Velip is marked as cleanliness warrior of the month.
Nitu Desai while appealing people to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings remembered Gandhi's words asking to maintain self cleanliness if we want to see a clean world.
