MARGAO
Asserting that the government will not compromise on the food consumed by Goans, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai took the Diwali platform to reassure the people that the former will not backtrack on its resolve to allow imported fish into the State only after high-standard quality checks.
He also pointed out that though Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s health was a matter of concern, he exuded confidence that the “development train” should be back on the tracks, which will usher in the progress of the people of the State.
“Come what may, we will not backtrack on quality checks for imported fish. Our focus now is to provide safe fish and food for the people of Goa. We have brought certain regulations and we will take these regulations to logical conclusion,” he said at the Diwali program at Fatorda, while seeking support of the people to achieve the goal of providing safe and good food.
He recalled how the formalin-in-fish controversy had triggered panic in the markets, forcing Goans to stay away resulting in a loss of business for the fish vendors. Without taking anyone’s name, Sardesai said, “There were some people who had shared this dais in the past and who were accused in the formalin controversy. We have taken strong measures to provide safe good. There seems to be some opposition to government’s initiative to tighten screws on imported fish, but with support and unity of Goans we will implement what is good for the health of the people.”
Admitting that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s health was a matter of concern, he made a fervent plea to the people to pray that Goa’s development train gets back on the tracks so that the state witness progress and development with the support of the people.
